Day 1, Worship Goddess Shailputri For Good Fortune
The first night of Navratri is devoted to Goddess “Shailputri.” Goddess Parvati – the daughter of the king of Mountains Himalaya, is known as Shailputri. ‘Shail’ means mountains in the Sanskrit language. She holds a Trishul (Trident) in one hand and a lotus in the other and rides a bull called Nandi.
Colour & Offering:
Orange, the colour of warmth, exuberance and optimism, is dedicated to the goddess Shailputri; we can wear orange clothes and offer pure ghee on the foot of Goddess Shailputri to get a life free of diseases and illness.
Goddess Shailputri Governing Planet and Direction
Goddess Shailputri governs the planet Moon, the provider of fortunes. Worshipping her may help overcome any harmful effect on the Moon and Vastu defects of North West direction viz. instability, excessive expenses, lack of proper communication, and help from friends and relatives.
